Man City have quietly solved long-standing problem with two new signings

Pep Guardiola declared before the new season that he expected Riyad Mahrez to continue taking penalties for Manchester City after establishing himself as their most reliable option from the spot last season.

Then, in the opening game against West Ham, with Mahrez on the bench, Erling Haaland won and converted a penalty with a confidence not seen from the spot for some time given City's long-standing penalty issues.

Now, another potential solution to City's spot-kick nervousness has arrived in an unlikely form - new left-back Sergio Gomez.
