Man City 'give Ilkay Gundogan option to stay' and other transfer rumours

Manchester City have reportedly given Ilkay Gundogan the option to stay at the club despite his contract running into its last six months.

Gundogan joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 and has since gone on to enjoy a very successful period at the Etihad Stadium. The 32-year-old has won four Premier Leagues, four League Cups, two Community Shields and an FA Cup in Manchester.

However, concern has been raised that the Germany international's contract will be expiring soon. Barcelona have been fiercely linked with him and see the midfielder as a potential replacement for Sergio Busquets.

New reports from journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking to TEAMtalk, suggest that Blues fans do not need to worry too much about the central midfielder's future. He explained: "Ilkay Gundogan’s situation has not changed too much in recent months.

"City are giving him the opportunity to stay and a contract is on offer to him. The talks between City and Gundogan have always been amicable, no doubting that.

"He loves the club and they love him, but that is why they are not pressurising him in any way, this will be his decision." Gundogan was given the captain's armband after a team vote following the departure of Fernandinho.

Elsewhere, further reports have linked Joao Cancelo with a move to Barcelona. According to Fichajes, the 28-year-old's agent, Jorge Mendes, has offered the full-back to the Catalan giants.

Cancelo has been out of favour at the Etihad since the World Cup. It was expected that he would feature in the FA Cup against Arsenal however Pep Guardiola opted to start Nathan Ake instead.

Barca are claimed to be watching the situation with the Portuguese defender closely but have not formally submitted a bid. AC Milan are also believed to be keeping tabs on the City man.
