Man City chief Soriano fires Manchester United spending dig and defends Erling Haaland transfer
Ferran Soriano, Manchester City's chief executive, has suggested Manchester United could have afforded to sign Erling Haaland but he chose the project at the Etihad over other European giants.
City announced the £51m signing of Haaland this month, beating the likes of Real Madrid to his signing by triggering the release clause in his contract at Borussia Dortmund. However, the financial package Haaland will receive is expected to take the total expenditure on the transfer to significantly more.

In light of that, City have received criticism from outside that they have simply thrown money at Haaland to secure his signature, but Soriano has hit back — bringing up United's spending record to boost his argument.
Man City's Aymeric Laporte to miss international matches to treat injury
Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has revealed that he will miss the upcoming international matches with Spain in order to treat an injury he sustained against Wolves.
Laporte was forced off against the West Midlands club on Wednesday, May 11, with a nasty-looking knee injury following a collision with Raul Jimenez. Despite doubts over his fitness, the Spaniard played the full 90 minutes against West Ham and Aston Villa to help his team seal the Premier League title.
In a statement on Wednesday, Laporte revealed he had battled through the pain in order to get the Blues over the line but would now have to miss international duty to recuperate. He tweeted: "As you may have read, unfortunately I won't be able to attend the National team games because of the injury I picked up against Wolves that will need further treatment."
