A man has been charged with the murder of a woman following a stabbing in Willesden, Met Police detectives have confirmed.
Najiib Raytaan was charged at Willesden Magistrates’ Court after a 50-year-old woman was stabbed on Saturday afternoon on Pound Lane in Willesden, London.
The 25-year-old man has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey in two days' time.
Speaking about today’s charge, Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams expressed his support for the victim’s family and loved ones.
“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends and all those who have been affected,” he said in a statement.
He also revealed that the incident had happened in front of other members of the public and that the suspect and the victim were known to each other.
He continued: “We know this incident was witnessed by several members of the public, many of whom have spoken to police and been offered wider support.
“The victim and suspect were known to each other and we believe this was a targeted act of violence rather than a random attack.”
Appealing for information from anyone who was in the vicinity on Saturday, Mr Williams added: “Anyone who has information or any concerns should speak to local officers or call 101 with reference 4731/31Jan.”
The charge comes just two days after police rushed to the scene of a busy London street where they found a 50-year-old woman suffering from stab wounds, who later died at the scene.
Officers were joined by members of the London Ambulance Service, with the incident taking place on a busy street where other members of the public were present and rushed to provide first aid.
Unfortunately, emergency services were unable to save the woman’s life, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man was arrested several hours after the incident and taken into custody.
