Former X-Factor contestant Mitchell Callaway has been charged with the murder of an infant girl.
Callaway, 37, was arrested at Bowraville on the NSW mid-north coast hinterland on Thursday.
He was charged with murdering the nine-month-old baby after a police investigation spanning almost five years.
The baby girl was found unresponsive in a home in Binnaway, south of Coonabarabran, on July 23, 2018.
Paramedics took the baby to Coonabarabran Hospital, but she died a short time later.
Detectives have since been investigating the death under Strike Force King.
Callaway’s arrest came after police received new information and a crime scene warrant was executed at a Binnaway home in May.
Callaway was a contestant on season 3 of The X Factor in 2011. He came seventh place overall, after being mentored by singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
He was refused bail to appear in Macksville Local Court.
