A man has been charged with murder, accused of stabbing another man in the stomach and leaving him bleeding to death in the Darwin CBD.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey confirmed a 28-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at a home in Darwin's north.
"Investigations are ongoing and he is expected to be charged in relation to this offending," Det Sen Sgt Morrissey said on Tuesday.
He has been charged with murder as well as a weapons and drug possession charges.
The 36-year-old victim was walking down a busy strip outside Woolworths in Darwin City at 11.30pm on Friday when he was stabbed in the stomach.
Police say the victim was with a group while the attacker was alone.
"I'm not sure of their history, but they were certainly talking to each other earlier," Det Sen Sgt Morrissey said.
The stabbed man was driven to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition but died on Saturday afternoon. He was from Wadeye community but had been living in Darwin for some time.
The charged man is expected to face Darwin Local Court later on Wednesday.
