An Oakey man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly injured two police officers when ramming them with a stolen truck near Toowoomba.
Police allege the 45-year-old man rammed the two officers when they tried to stop the truck at Meringandan at about 1.20pm on Wednesday.
"Police will further allege as they opened the door to the truck the driver accelerated, trapping the officers between the truck and police car before they were thrown across the bonnet and onto the road," a police spokesperson said.
Detective Senior Constable Steven Ingerson, 54, from the Toowoomba Property Crime Squad, was flown to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital.
He was in a critical condition overnight, but has since stabilised.
The Queensland Police Union said Senior Constable Ingerson was placed in an induced coma to manage pain and had suffered a fractured pelvis and internal injuries.
He is now out of the coma.
The union said his wife and children were with him in hospital and he could be brought out of the induced coma today if his condition improved.
Detective Senior Constable Mark Pemberthy, 56, from the same squad, was taken by road to St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition.
He was released late last night.
The police spokesperson said it would be alleged the truck had driven away but was soon followed by two marked police vehicles to a Goombungee waste management plant.
"It will be further alleged then the truck deliberately rammed the two vehicles causing extensive damage to them.
"Two officers were treated for minor injuries at the scene."
The police union said a fifth officer also suffered minor injuries.
The man was arrested there and overnight was charged with two counts of attempted murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He has also been charged with count each of endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, break and enter, wilful damage, evade police and possess dangerous drugs.
He is due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
Police believe the truck was stolen alongside a ute from a location in Oakey about 4am on Wednesday.
"Earlier in the day at 10.30am, police intercepted the stolen ute with the use of a tyre deflation device on Omara Road at Charlton," the spokesperson said.
"Two men aged 19 and 28-years-old were taken into custody at the scene.
"They have been charged with various offences including stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and drug offences."
The men will both appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court this morning.
Suffering in silence
Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said the incident had "rocked the Toowoomba policing community".
"It hurts all of us right across the state of Queensland but also the country because although there's 67,000 police in the country, we're pretty close knit at times like this," Mr Leavers said.
"The issue we have as police is we know the dangers, we see it, we live it and we breathe it each and every day but those who suffer in silence are our families at home, we really need to think about families because every time their loved one goes to work they have the feeling will they come home or will they end up in hospital … what will the case be because they're simply just doing their jobs.
"If you see a police officer just say thank you for your service, that means so much to us and what we'll do is to continue to do our job and act within the law to keep you safe."
Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan said his thoughts were with the "very brave" officers after the "terrible" incident.
"[The] recent update from the police commissioner is they're in a stable condition and does look to be some positive signs, but it's early days and [the] general injuries are serious," he said.
