A man has been charged with the alleged unprovoked stabbing murder of 69-year-old Christopher Gwin in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Police have alleged 68-year-old Maroochydore man Paul Anthony Coughlan went to Mr Gwin's home on Kilcoy Lane in Conondale on Thursday and allegedly stabbed Mr Gwin.
Mr Gwin died soon after.
An acquaintance found Mr Gwin's body at the property on Saturday just before 4:00pm after he failed to meet up with friends.
Detective Inspector Christopher Toohey said Mr Gwin, a retired teacher's aide, was "the victim of a violent offence", but did not provide further details.
Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch detectives took Mr Coughlan into custody at 11:00am on Sunday.
He was charged with murder and misconduct with corpse by interfering, just before midnight on Sunday.
Police said there were multiple crime scenes including two vehicles and three properties across the Sunshine Coast.
Mr Coughlan was denied bail.
He will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
Police are asking for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage near the Conondale property recorded over the past week to come forward.
'A gentle, harmless guy'
Inspector Toohey said Mr Gwin lived at Crystal Waters — a co-operative community — and its residents had been coming to terms with his sudden death.
"Christopher is a well-liked member of the Crystal Waters community," he said.
"[They] are shocked and saddened over his death."
A friend of Mr Gwin, Mary Garden, said he had a "very deep commitment" to Buddhism.
"He was quite a solitary person … and [a] very, very gentle, caring person," she said.
"This will impact so many people in the community.
"I'm really feeling for the people at Crystal Waters and those at Conondale Primary School who he worked with."
Debra Fogarty knew Mr Gwin for many years as his neighbour and friend.
She said his alleged murder was alarming.
"He's just quite a gentle, harmless guy," Ms Fogarty said.
"For something to be so big here — it's quite scary for our community."
