A pensioner is due to appear in court on Thursday charged with murdering a young woman in north London and indecently assaulting another almost 50 years ago.
Sex worker Eileen Cotter, 22, was discovered strangled in front of a block of garages on Hamilton Park, Highbury.
A murder investigation was launched on the afternoon of June 1, 1974 but no charges were brought.
On Wednesday, John Apelgren, 79, of Bryden Close, Sydenham was arrested on suspicion of the murder committed when he was 31.
A post mortem found the victim’s cause of death to be strangulation.
Apelgren was charged later the same day with killing Ms Cotter and the indecent assault of a second female in 1972.
Scotland Yard said he is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on June 23.
