A man has been extradited from France to face murder charges five years after the killing of an Afghan refugee in an east London park.

Javid Ahmadzai is charged with killing Moosakhan Naseri, 20, who was knifed in the chest as he sat in Plashet Park in East Ham on October 15 2017.

Mr Naseri had been in London for two years after fleeing Afghanistan when his family were shot dead as they slept by the Taliban.

His father, mother, two sisters and eight-year-old brother were all killed in a revenge attack by the Taliban because his 43-year-old father Angul was a member of the Afghan army.

He only escaped death as he was staying with relatives in Kabul that night.

He fled the country and ended up in the shanty town refugee camp known as the Calais Jungle before paying people smugglers to get to the UK in the back of a lorry.

He applied for Asylum when he arrived in England but was rejeced by the Home Office.

He was in the middle of appealing the decision when he was killed, his murder trial heard.

A passing surgeon Dr Mohammod Uzzaman used a police officer’s knife to cut Moosakhan open and attempted to massage his heart, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Murder suspect Ahmadzai was extradited from France and appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, and is due at the Old Bailey on Thursday.

Four men who were previously arrested and charged with the murder were all acquitted after a trial in 2018, the Metropolitan Police said.
