A man has been charged following the death of a "much loved" grandmother at a home in Peterhead. Elizabeth Watson, 58, was found dead after police were called to Catto Drive in the Aberdeenshire town at around 6.15pm on Tuesday.
A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with her death, which officers are treating as murder. The man is due to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Friday, June 30.
Elizabeth's death has left her heartbroken loved ones and members of the local community completely devastated. In a statement released through Police Scotland, the family said: “Elizabeth was a much loved mum and grandma, she will be missed dearly by many.”
Tributes poured in for the grandmother across the community, with countless people describing her as a "lovely woman" who always made time to say hello to everyone she passed.
As well as being a devoted mum and grandmother, she was a member of Apex Church and has been described as an amazing neighbour.
Tracey Smith told the Record: "I knew her through her eldest son. She was a lovely lady, a great mum and a brilliant grandmother."
Helen Watson added: "She was a quiet lady who always said hello in passing. It's so sad to hear this, my thoughts are with her mum and dad."
Friend Elizabeth Milne said: "She was one of my best pals. I'm totally devastated. Heartbroken. I have precious memories of all our times together. My thoughts are with all her family."
Detective Inspector James Callander said: “Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family and friends at this difficult time, as well as everyone in the local community affected by her death.
“We are treating this as a contained incident and there is no risk to the wider public.
“A police presence will remain in the area in the coming days, including detectives from the Major Investigation Team. Specialist officers are providing Elizabeth’s family with support.
“Anyone who may have information which could assist our enquiries is asked to call 101, quoting reference 3212 of June 27.”
