A Mawson man driving with a baby in the car has been charged with drink-driving during a joint road safety operation in Canberra this week.
The 31-year-old man was among 372 drivers subjected to roadside breath tests on Tuesday, July 21, at checkpoints across the city.
The alleged drink-driver, travelling with a nine-month-old baby in a blue BYD Sealion, was stopped about 1.10pm on Yarra Glen Drive in Curtin.
Police said he was taken to Woden Police Station where a secondary alcohol screening test allegedly showed he had a blood alcohol reading of .089, nearly double the legal limit for a full licence holder.
The Mawson man's licence was suspended and he is expected to be charged in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
During the operation, ACT Road Policing officers worked alongside ACT vehicle standard safety inspectors who checked vehicles for roadworthiness and issued in 36 defect notices and 12 fines.
Detective acting Inspector David Lawler said the operation ensured motorists were held accountable for meeting their responsibilities on Canberra roads.
"Operations like this provide an opportunity to ensure vehicles are registered, insured and roadworthy," the acting inspector said.
"While targeted enforcement activities help raise awareness, police will continue to carry out roadside alcohol and drug screening anywhere, at any time, as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping ACT roads safe."
