Man breaks both legs jumping 40ft out window after thinking date's boyfriend came home

A man jumped out of the third-storey window of a house after thinking his date's boyfriend had arrived home.

The man broke both his legs after trying to leave a house in Cork - but it turned out it was just her housemate.

The housemate had just come in from walking his puppy and was chatting with the man's date when they both heard someone land on the footpath outside.

The pair ran to see what had happened and found the man crawling away from the house.

They stopped him to ask if he was okay and what had happened, CorkBeo reports.

They found the man that she had been on a date with crawling away from the house and stopped him to make sure that he was okay after the steep jump and to ask what had happened.

The housemate said: "He said that he thought it was her boyfriend that had arrived home and that he had panicked, he couldn't walk after the impact, we made him stay put and phoned an ambulance, as I'm honestly amazed he escaped that drop and wasn't even more seriously injured.

"They didn't expect two fire service vehicles and multiple emergency service vehicles to show up but were glad that the man who jumped got medical attention to make sure he was alright.

"They put him on a stretcher with a neck brace in case he did have serious injuries. He got in touch with my roommate the next day to say that he was okay and even asked for a second date, we later found out that his legs were broken."

The man is now in a stable condition and is focusing on his recovery.

Last year, a man broke both his legs jumping from the top floor of a home to escape a blaze that claimed four lives.

The tragedy happened in November in Bexleyheath, South London, killing two women and two young children.

The injured man, who is being treated in hospital, is believed to be the uncle of the children, a boy aged four and his one-year-old sister.
