A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving after a shocking incident in County Durham on Sunday afternoon.
Armed police responded to reports of a serious road traffic collision on the A167 at Croxdale. The road was shut between Croxdale Roundabout to York Hill Road in Thinford as a result of the incident which took place near the Shell garage.

Officers (from Durham Constabulary’s Roads and the Armed Policing Team) attended the incident and discovered that a BMW X5 had collided with three cars which were parked in the station forecourt.
The driver and passenger were taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance. The driver, a man in his 40s, was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving.
Enquiries are underway into the incident.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: 'Police were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision on the A167 at the Shell garage at noon yesterday (July 10).
Officer from Durham Constabulary’s Roads and Armed Policing Team attended the incident which involved a BMW X5 which had collided with three parked cars in the station forecourt.
The driver and passenger were taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance.
The driver, a man in his 40s, was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving.
Enquiries are ongoing.'
