Man arrested in connection with death of Belgian fortune teller Stefan Posschier in Westmeath

Gardai have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Westmeath fortune teller Stefan Posschier.

Mr Posschier, 65, died in “violent” circumstances at his home at Rattin, between Kinnegad and Milltownpass, in Co Westmeath, on October 25. The body of the Belgian national, who went by the stage name Stefan de Guylian and had lived in the area for more than 20 years, was found by gardai on land near his home

Gardai have confirmed that a suspect has now been arrested on suspicion of murdering the 65-year-old Belgian national. A man aged in his 20s is currently in custody.

Mr Posschier's funeral took place in Westmeath on Sunday morning. He had lived in the area for more than 20 years.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí in Mullingar who are investigating the death of Stefan Nivelles Posschier, 65 years have arrested a male this morning, Monday 7th November 2022. The male, aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

"He is currently detained in Mullingar Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Investigations are ongoing."
