London police have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder following two separate crossbow attacks in Shoreditch, east London. The first incident occurred on March 4 when a 44-year-old woman was struck in the head with a crossbow bolt. The second attack took place on March 14, injuring a 20-year-old man in the neck. Fortunately, both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police launched a manhunt, leading to the arrest of the suspect in Shoreditch on Sunday. During a search of his residence, authorities discovered a crossbow, knives, and other weapons. Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway described the arrest as a significant development in the case, emphasizing that the investigation remains complex and ongoing. The suspect is currently in custody at an east London police station.
In response to these incidents, the British government is contemplating stricter regulations on crossbows to align them more closely with firearms laws. Presently, individuals over 18 can legally purchase a crossbow, but carrying one in public without a valid reason could result in a prison sentence of up to four years.
