Man arrested for assaulting two Halifax police officersoutside headquarters, suspect faces multiple charges; what do we know so far

A 30-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting two police officers outside Halifax Regional Police headquarters in Halifax on Saturday evening (May 9, 2026). Police said the incident occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m. on May 9 in the parking lot of the Halifax Regional Police Headquarters located at 1975 Gottingen Street, according to a Halifax Regional Police news release.

According to officers, a vehicle pulled into the lot and a woman driving the vehicle exited and demanded that officers arrest the male passenger, alleging he was intoxicated and breaching court-ordered conditions.

How the incident unfolded

Police said the man quickly got out of the vehicle and moved into the driver’s seat. Officers believed he was attempting to leave while impaired and tried to prevent him from closing the driver’s side door, but he allegedly resisted, the news release stated. Investigators said the man then exited the vehicle and assaulted both officers before being taken into custody without further incident. No physical injuries were reported.

Suspect faces multiple charges

Police identified the accused as Devante Clyke, 30, who was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court on Monday (May 11, 2026). He is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, assault by choking, resisting arrest, and causing a disturbance.

Meanwhile, Halifax Regional Police responded to 782 calls for service over the weekend. In another incident, which occurred on May 8, 2026, police responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a car and a motorcycle at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Portland Street and Highway 111, northbound at the Exit 7 ramp in Dartmouth.

The driver of the car and the passenger were not injured, the same police news release revealed. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital by EHS with what were believed to be serious injuries. The 37-year-old driver of the motorcycle was issued multiple tickets under the motor vehicle act.
