Man arrested for assault and false imprisonment after emergency services scramble

Emergency services scrambled to a scene as a man was later arrested for assault and false imprisonment.

Police received a report of a domestic-related incident at an address on Handfield Road in Waterloo. Officers attended and arrested a 44-year-old man from Waterloo on suspicion of assault and false imprisonment.

Eyewitnesses reportedly said there were a number of fire engines and police on South Road in Waterloo, which is near Handfield Road, and around three roads were blocked off.

The roads reopened and the man was being quizzed by police. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said officers remain on Handfield Road this morning while further enquiries are carried out.

A statement from Merseyside Police said: "Police are currently in attendance in Waterloo this morning, Wednesday, April 13. At around 9.30am we received a report of a domestic-related incident at an address on Handfield Road.

"Officers attended and arrested a 44-year-old man from Waterloo on suspicion of assault and false imprisonment. He will be taken into custody for questioning by police.

"Officers remain on Handfield Road this morning while further enquiries are carried out."
