A man has been arrested following reports of a sexual assault on a Metrolink tram in Tameside.
Police received reports of a sexual assault on a Metrolink service in Ashton-Under-Lyne at around 5.40pm yesterday (April 25). Following their enquiries, a 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
The man remains in police custody for questioning. Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and have launched an appeal for the public’s assistance.

Anyone who was on board the tram at the time of the reported incident is asked to get in touch with police to share any information they may have.
A GMP spokesperson said: “ At around 5.40 yesterday (Monday 25 April 2022), we received a report of a sexual assault on a Metrolink service in Ashton-Under-Lyne. A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in police custody for questioning.
“Anyone with information, particularly who was on board the tram, should contact #GMPTransportUnit on 0161 856 5324 quoting 2339 25/04/22.”
Police also launched an appeal for information following a separate incident where a woman was sexually assaulted inside a house in south Mancheste r. The vile attack happened in the Withington area last month and an image has been shared in a bid to help officers with their enquiries.
