A man who fled Australia after being a suspect in a murder investigation has been arrested 16 years later.
The 36-year-old returned to Australia on Saturday on a flight from Bangkok and was arrested in Melbourne before being extradited to South Australia.
His is the fourth arrest in relation to the murder of Thea Kheav in December 2007 at an 18th birthday party in the Adelaide suburb of Parafield Gardens.
Police said an altercation occurred at the party with Mr Kheav's brother and another group.
The group left briefly before returning and fatally stabbing Thea Kheav.
Three men were convicted of his murder and were sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for 20-years in 2011.
Police identified a fourth suspect six months after the murder investigation began but the now 36-year-old had fled Australia four weeks after the killing.
A warrant for the man was obtained in 2008 and he was then arrested by Cambodian police, but three months later the Cambodian Supreme Court rejected an extradition application.
He returned to Australia on Saturday and was arrested by authorities before an extradition was approved to South Australia.
The 36-year-old remains in the Adelaide City watch house on a warrant for a charge of murder issued in his absence and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
