Man arrested after woman raped on riverbank in early-morning attack

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a woman on a riverbank in West Lothian in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called to the banks of the River Almond in the Howden area of Livingston at around 1.50am on Monday following a report of a woman being seriously sexually assaulted.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.50am on Monday, September 7, we received a report of a woman being seriously sexually assaulted on the banks of the River Almond in the Howden area of Livingston.

“A 51-year-old man has been arrested, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
