Man arrested after Winston Churchill statue defaced with ‘Zionist war criminal’ graffiti

  • The bronze sculpture was defaced with red paint, featuring slogans such as 'Free Palestine', 'Zionist war criminal', and 'Globalise the intifada'.
  • The Metropolitan Police confirmed a 38-year-old man was arrested shortly after 4am on Friday on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage and remains in custody.
  • The statue has been cordoned off and is currently undergoing cleaning following the incident.
  • This monument has been a frequent target for protesters, with climbing on it made a crime last summer, and police previously announced arrests for chanting 'globalise the intifada'.
