A MAN has been arrested after a pedestrian died after being hit by a car in Grangemouth.
Police were called to Newlands Road at around 11.15pm on Monday following a report of a crash involving a Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian.
Emergency services attended the incident; however, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said enquiries to identify the man are ongoing.
The 35-year-old male driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution and was arrested in connection with the incident.
Newlands Road was closed for around seven hours to allow officers to carry out their enquiries. The road was re-opened around 6am on Tuesday.
Sergeant Michael Shillington said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to ID the man who died and to establish the full circumstances of this crash and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed it to contact us.
“We are looking to trace the driver of a vehicle that initially stopped at the scene but left before police arrival.
“I would also ask anyone who was in the area and many have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us.”
