A man has been arrested and is expected to be charged after another man was fatally stabbed in the Darwin CBD.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey confirmed a 28-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at a home in Darwin's north.
"Investigations are ongoing and he is expected to be charged in relation to this offending," Det Sen Sgt Morrissey said on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old victim was walking down a busy strip outside Woolworths in Darwin City at 11:30pm on Friday when he was stabbed in the stomach.
Police say the victim was with a group while the attacker was alone.
"I'm not sure of their history, but they were certainly talking to each other earlier," Sgt Morrissey said.
The man was stabbed in the abdominal area and emergency services were called.
He was driven to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition but died on Saturday afternoon.
The victim was from Wadeye community but had been living in Darwin for some time.
The arrested man is being held at Palmerston watchhouse and is expected to be charged on Tuesday evening.
