A man has been arrested following a fight in broad daylight in a residential Salford street.
Police were called to Ackworth Road in Swinton at around 4pm on Sunday afternoon (May 8) after a group of men were seen fighting ‘with weapons’.
Cops sealed off the road until the evening, which residents say is usually quiet. Now, a 21-year-old man has been arrested, a GMP spokesperson has confirmed.
A statement from the police said: “We were called at around 4pm on Sunday 8 May to a report of men fighting with weapons on Ackworth Road, Swinton. A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and section 18 assault. He remains in custody.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact us online via our LiveChat facility, if able, or by calling 101 quoting incident 2179 of 08/05/2022. Details can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
One resident told the Manchester Evening News yesterday that they had witnessed the area being taped off. They also confirmed that there had been issues with anti-social behaviour in the past. They said: "It is usually quiet around here as it is a dead end. Around there, we have had issues in the past close to the small pathway with young people and antisocial behaviour and drugs."
