Man arrested, accused of setting fire at Pulse nightclub memorial in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Fire Department announced the arrest Tuesday of Mark Anthony Henson, 64, for allegedly setting fire to the Pulse Interim Memorial, the temporary structure dedicated to the 49 people killed in the June 2016 nightclub massacre.

Henson was charged with felony criminal mischief for the fire at the center of the memorial, at 1912 South Orange Ave. in Orlando. In a grainy security video released by the onePULSE Foundation, a man using a wheelchair can be seen sparking the blaze before quickly leaving.

The onePULSE Foundation, the nonprofit organization that is designing a permanent Pulse memorial and museum, said in a post on its Facebook page that the fire occurred Oct. 12 about 8:30 p.m. It damaged the offering wall of the memorial, burning three banners honoring those who lost their lives in the attack.

No one was injured in the blaze.
