A man has appeared in court after an alleged suspicious item was found in a Glasgow flat. Christopher Scarr, from Glasgow, appeared at the city's sheriff court today, charged with an explosive substances offence.
The 50-year-old made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. He will return to court within eight days.
Cops locked down Petershill Road in the Springburn area of the city as emergency services swooped after reports of a suspicious package at 1am on Monday, April 17.
Residents were evacuated and an Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team from the Royal Navy was requested to remove an item by police. A controlled explosion took place yesterday afternoon and the Ministry of Defence confirmed they are continuing to help police with their enquiries.
The police investigation is still underway at the block of flats, with officers carrying out further searches around the property today. It is understood specialist officers from police forces in England have been involved in the search.
A total of 26 residents have been housed by Glasgow City Council after they were evacuated from their homes two days ago. They have been staying in hotels while the search is completed.
