A 62-year-old man has admitted to killing his sister on the first day of his trial at the Old Bailey.
Andrew Cunningham stabbed 57-year-old Margaret Cunningham to death on November 29, 2024.
Police attended the scene just before 3pm, where Ms Cunningham was transported to the hospital. She sadly died later that evening.
Cunningham was arrested in Rotherhithe, south London, and charged with murder.
On February 9, the 62-year-old appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link.
The defendant, of Greenland Quay, Rotherhithe, denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility, which was supported by agreement from medical experts for both the prosecution and defence.
Prosecutor Nneka Akudolu KC said the plea had been considered at a high level and was acceptable to the Crown.
Sentencing was adjourned by Judge Mark Lucraft KC until March 25.
The judge told the defendant that the violent death of anyone, especially his sister, required "people to think about the impact of the loss of her life".
"Any sentence the court passes, whatever the circumstances, will never equate to the loss of life," he went on.
