A man has admitted causing the death of a much-loved grandfather in a horror collision in County Durham.
Edward Bell, known as Eddie, was walking on Delves Lane, in Consett, County Durham, when he was struck by a silver Seat Leon at 11.35am on June 19, last year. The 76-year-old was treated by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Following Mr Bell's death, David Tolson, the driver of the Seat Leon, was arrested in connection with the incident. On Wednesday, he appeared at Durham Crown Court facing one charge of causing death by dangerous driving. The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge at the morning hearing.

Judge James Adkin, the Recorder of Durham, said the sentencing would be adjourned until a later date and would take up to two hours. He said that members of Mr Bell's family may wish to read out personal statements at the sentencing hearing.
The judge warned Tolson he can expect a lengthy prison sentence and imposed an interim driving ban. Tolson, of Dere Road, Consett, was given bail until his sentencing on Friday, June 17.
In the days following Mr Bell's death, his family paid tribute to the much-loved family man. They said: "He was a much-loved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed. We wish to thank everyone for their support and ask to be left so that we can grieve in peace."
