A husband assaulted his wife then pointed a fake gun at a complete stranger when he suspected an affair. Paul Tomlinson attacked his wife at her home in Bilborough, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
He turned up and collected the imitation firearm on January 26 last year. When challenged, Tomlinson squeezed her face and hit her head on a door frame.
Tomlinson was jailed over the assault on his ex-partner on Thursday (April 13) and for possessing the imitation firearm and causing criminal damage to her car. Judge Stuart Rafferty KC, who handed him three years in prison, said: "She (his wife) deserves a medal for having stuck it out for so long.

"Not only do you manhandle her and injured her - you go outside like a spoilt child and start taking it out on the car. Then, further down the street, a complete stranger, who happened to be driving by, is confronted with an imitation firearm and accused of having a relationship with your wife. These are not rational actions"
Tomlinson, 36, of Haynes Close, Clifton, is now clean from drugs, has given up smoking and biting his nails, said David Watts, mitigating. "He has done all of that off his own back," added Mr Watts.
