A man has reportedly admitted deliberately crashing a plane to get views on YouTube. Trevor Jacob, 29, posted a video him bailing out a plane before it crashed in December 2021. It has over 2.9 million views.
The BBC says he has now admitted filming the video as part of a sponsorship deal and could face up to 20 years in prison for 'destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation'.
Mr Jacob left the airfield in the plane with a parachute, cameras and a selfie stick.
The plane crashed into the Los Padres National Forest 35 minutes after takeoff. He reported the crash to the National Transportation Safety Board.
Mr Jacob is expected to make a court appearance in the coming weeks. His pilot's licence has been revoked.
Mr Jacob's lawyer has not responded to the BBC's request for comment.
