A man accused of attempted murder refused to give a plea during a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday.
Shaun Duckworth, of Breeze Hill, Walton, previously appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court charged with the attempted murder of Paul Higham and possession of cannabis. He was remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court today when he was asked to enter a plea.
During the hearing, Duckworth said he did not believe he had been given up to date information by his counsel. He claimed he had only had a 40 minute conference with his counsel three and a half weeks prior, so the information he needed to give a plea was “out of date”.

Duckworth said: “The Judge believes I have had sufficient time to make a decision. The court can do what they want to railroad me into anything they want because that is clearly what is happening”.
He said there had been “so many changes” in the three and a half weeks since he said he spoke to his counsel, so he refused to enter a plea. The 34-year-old added: “I refuse to enter a plea to anything, the court can railroad me into any decision they choose.”
Judge David Aubrey KC adjourned the hearing and Duckworth will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court to enter his plea on April 4. A preliminary trial date was set for August 7.
Emergency services were called to Coronet Road at around 10.30pm on Wednesday, February 8 after reports of a car being in a suspected deliberate collision with a man. A man in his 30s was found unconscious and was taken to hospital where he remains.
