A retiree has died after falling from a drawbridge that opened underneath him on a holiday with his wife.

Richard Dujardin, 77, from Rhode Island in the US, was crossing the Kilbourn Avenue Bridge in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday afternoon with his wife when it started to open.

Rosemarie Dujardin had walked ahead so made it across the Milwaukee River, but Mr Dujardin was only about halfway across and looking at an iPad screen when tragedy struck.
