A man has died after a fire broke out at a flat in a retirement housing development in Dundee.
Emergency services raced to Bonnethill Gardens on Caldrum Terrace in the Hilltown area of the city shortly before 8pm on Wednesday, June 22.
A 64-year-old man was rushed to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries and died a short time later.
A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
As a result, a join investigation has been launched by Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, although there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the event.
The housing development is run by charity Bield, who say they are "deeply saddened" by the tragedy and are supporting those who have been affected.
A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that last night [22 Jun] there was a fire at our Bonnethill Gardens development in Dundee which has resulted in one fatality.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our condolences go out to the man's family, friends and loved ones, including all of those who knew him at the development.
"This is a traumatic incident for customers and staff, whose welfare is a priority and we will be providing support to anyone who may have been affected.
"We are cooperating fully with the police and fire service to investigate the incident, but at this stage, it would be inappropriate to comment further."
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers were called to a report of a fire at Bonnethill Gardens at around 8.50pm on Wednesday.
“A 64-year-old man was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 7.42pm on Wednesday, June 22 to reports of a fire in a ground floor flat at Bonnethill Gardens, Caldrum Terrace, Dundee.
"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene.
“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
