Police have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses following a collision in Northumberland which has left a man fighting for his life.
A collision involving a car and lorry took place at around 2.30pm yesterday on the A1 southbound, near the A697 Longhorsley turnoff.
Emergency services were called to the scene and a 60-year-old man was rushed to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police, said: "At 2.30pm yesterday (Monday) Police received a report of a collision involving a car and a lorry in Northumberland on the A1 southbound near the A697 Longhorsley turn off.
"Emergency services attended the area and the driver of the car, a 60-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
"He remains in a critical conditional at this time."
A full scale investigation has been launched and officers are urging any witnesses - particularly those with dashcam footage relating to the incident - to come forward and speak to them.
The spokesperson continued: "An investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision has been launched by officers from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department and a number of enquiries already carried out.
"Officers are now asking for anyone with information, or motorists who might have dashcam footage to get in touch."
