Man, 48, found dead as police cordon off street

A man in his 40s has been found dead in Oldham. The man, aged 48, was pronounced dead at the scene in High Crompton, Shaw, earlier today.

Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and have since stood down their investigation at the scene. Officers taped off Mossgate Road, a dirt track road which borders fields at the end of a busy housing estate, at its junction with Brellafield Drive.

A GMP spokesperson said officers were originally called at about 4.30pm. An officer remained to guard the scene this evening, as investigations continued.

Officers and emergency services attended the scene. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services and members of the public, the male was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The scene has now been closed."
