A man is reportedly fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed in a residential suburb of south London on Saturday night.
The 37-year-old was stabbed a number of times on Weir Road, close to Clapham Park, at around 7.35pm on Saturday, July 18.
He was found with stab wounds by police officers, who provided first aid until paramedics arrived on the scene. The Met Police stated on Sunday that the man remains in a critical condition.
Officers are working to identify a male suspect who was chased away from the injured man by members of the public, MyLondon reports.
Detective Superintendent Gareth Gilbert said: "This was a shocking and brutal attack, carried out in broad daylight on a residential street. Our officers are working quickly to identify and arrest the attacker and it is imperative that anyone with information should come forward immediately.
"We recognise this incident will be deeply disturbing to the local community and want to reassure residents that they can expect to see an increased number of officers in the area over the coming days.
“We would also like to pay tribute to the members of the public who bravely chased the suspect away from the scene while he was still armed."
Anyone with information or footage is urged to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 6708/18Jul. Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
