A man has been taken to hospital with stab wounds to his hand and arm after being assaulted in Felling.
The attack happened in the area near to Lumley Gardens and Beaufront Gardens in the Gateshead suburb. Both the police and the ambulance service attended.
The injured man, 21, is thought to have received injuries to his arm and hand caused by a blade. He was taken to hospital but his injuries are thought to be non-life-threatening.
One witness told ChronicleLive how they had seen "the victim running away with a wound in his arm".
Northumbria Police has now launched an investigation and is seeking to trace those involved. At this early stage, officers believe those involved were known to one another.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 3.20pm today (Friday) police received a report of an assault near to Lumley Gardens in Felling, Gateshead. Emergency services attended the scene and found a man – aged 21 – who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and hand consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
"An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved. While enquiries are at an early stage, officers believe all parties were known to each other. An increased police presence remains in the area as officers carry out enquiries."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed the service were called out to the Gateshead area on Friday afternoon at a private address, and that one person was taken to hospital.
They said: "We were called at 3.21pm to attend a patient at a private address in the Gateshead area. We dispatched as paramedic crew who took one person to hospital."
