Man, 19, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after double stabbing

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a double stabbing in Salford, police confirmed today (February 12).

A man, 21, and a 20-year-old woman were both taken to hospital with 'serious' injuries after a 'violent assault'.

The Manchester Evening News reported police and emergency services were called to Manchester Road in Walkden, Salford, at around 11pm on Sunday, February 6, following reports of a knife attack.

Now police have issued further information in an updated appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

The teenager, who hasn't been named, was quizzed on suspicion of attempted murder, but has now been released on bail pending further enquiries, the force said.

Both victims are also now out of hospital.

They, too, haven't been named.

GMP's Salford division posted an update to Facebook on Saturday.

The force said: "Police are continuing to investigate a stabbing in Salford.

"At around 11pm on Sunday 6th February 2022, police received a report of a stabbing on Manchester Road, Worsley.

"Emergency services attended.

"A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were taken to hospital. They have both been released.

"A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries."

Detective Inspector Chris Horsfield said: "This was a violent assault which resulted in two people being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"I would like to reassure the community that, although we made an arrest, our investigation is going and moving quickly, as our team of detectives follow all lines of enquiry.

"I would encourage anyone who witnessed this assault or has any other information to contact us as soon as possible"

The A6 Manchester Road was closed in both directions for hours overnight after the serious incident.

The road was shut from Old Clough Lane to East Lynn Drive just after midnight.
