Malik Tillman becomes FIFTH Rangers summer arrival as Bayern Munich starlet agrees Ibrox loan with option to buy

Rangers have signed Bayern Munich starlet Malik Tillman on a season-long loan as the rising Bundesliga midfielder becomes the FIFTH new face to join Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad this summer.

The 20-year-old emerged as the latest Light Blues target earlier this week and he has now agreed to make the switch from Bavaria to Govan on an initial loan which could then be turned into a permanent deal at the end of the campaign. It’s a coup for van Bronckhorst after reports suggesting Tillman looked to be heading to the English Premier League where clubs were keen on landing the player. But Rangers won the race for his signature and announced in a club statement: “Rangers Football Club are today delighted to announce the signing of Malik Tillman on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, with an exclusive option to buy subject to international clearance.

"The 20-year-old attacking midfielder becomes Rangers’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window. Tillman joined Bayern in 2015 and has represented them at every youth level, breaking his way into the first-team last season with appearances in the UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga."

"He has represented Germany and the USA at youth level playing up to U21 with Germany, before making the decision to commit to the United States this summer. He made his debut for the senior team in June in a friendly against Morocco.

Tillman joins Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo in signing in a summer that has also seen John Souttar join up with the squad after he previously agreed a pre-contract agreement to move across the M8 from Hearts.

The youngster was born in Germany but has represented the American men’s senior national team, who he qualifies through his father, on two occasions. He has played four times for Bayern Munich, including in the Champions League when he came off the bench against Barcelona.

After putting pen to paper, Tillman said: "I am really excited to sign for Rangers and I’m looking forward to getting started. It is a new challenge for me at a huge club with fantastic supporters and I can’t wait for the season ahead.”

Ibrox boss Gio van Bronckhorst also had his say: “I am very pleased to welcome Malik to our squad ahead of the 2022/23 season. He is an exciting young talent who will further add to our attacking options and myself and the coaching staff are looking forward to working with him.”
