Police who have been searching a river in relation to a woman who has been missing for 17 years say they are now treating her disappearance as a murder investigation. Polish national Malgorzata Wnuczek went missing in 2006.
Detective Inspector Jenni Heggs from Leicestershire Police has been leading the inquiry for the past two years after it had been filed in 2013 after all lines of inquiry were exhausted. However, it was reopened earlier this year when new information was received from the Polish authorities.
That led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man from the Greater Manchester area. It has also led to a search of the River Soar between Mill Lane and Upperton Road in Leicester on Tuesday, June 6. Specialist officers are using "sonar technology" and other equipment to look for traces of Malgorzata in the river.
