Making Spotify playlists for the one you love is seen as more romantic than buying them flowers, a poll has found.
When it comes to modern romance, waiting to watch your favourite TV shows together is more likely to impress them than sending love letters.
Almost a third of those who responded to the poll said the height of romance was using a picture of your loved one as your phone screen saver, while less than a fifth said it was sending them roses.
Top of the list was checking someone is home after a night out, with 41% saying it was the best way of showing someone you care.
Travelling miles to be with them was next, followed by sending messages first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
While love letters are on the wane communication is still key to romance – it just takes a different form.
High on the most-wanted list were regular videocalls when apart, regularly sending funny memes and never leaving someone hanging on a WhatsApp double tick.
And sharing your TV streaming password is the best way of saying “I love you” for 13% of those polled.
Newcastle was found to be the UK’s most romantic city, with 28% of Geordies considering themselves true romantics, compared with a national average of 21%.
Liverpool and Nottingham followed close behind but Bristol was revealed as the least romantic place in the survey of 1,500 by mobility app FREE NOW.
Mariusz Zabrocki of FREE NOW said: “It is not necessarily the big grand gestures but smaller touches that signal you are love-struck.”
