‘Makes me so angry’: South Carolina mom feels ‘helpless’ after her son’s recovery is at risk. UnitedHealthcare allegedly denied coverage for his rehab

Peyton Alvarez, a 25-year-old airline mechanic, was involved in a severe crash when his motorbike struck a tree on the 28th of April in Greenville, South Carolina. He suffered a traumatic brain injury that had doctors warning his mother, Trina Alvarez, that he may never wake up. Fortunately, after a month of being unconscious, he did. Now, however, his family is dealing with a whole new nightmare after UnitedHealthcare denied coverage for needed rehabilitation.

Trina laid out that first call for WNDU, stating, “On April 28th, I was getting ready for work, and my phone rang. ‘We have your son Peyton, and he’s been in a motorcycle accident.’ And I was like, oh my gosh, it’s like your worst fear.” According to The Daily Mail, Peyton was wearing his helmet as well as other protective gear. Despite that, the impact was devastating. However, things changed in early June when Peyton first opened his right eye.
