Makeover of top Ayrshire wedding venue branded as 'rotten' and 'tasteless' by furious brides

The makeover of a top Ayrshire wedding venue has been branded as “tasteless” by a furious bride due to wed there this summer.

The Brig o’ Doon House hotel, in Alloway, has undergone major renovations after it was bought over by the RAD Hotel Group in October 2022.

Management provided bridal parties with pictures of their plans to revamp their ballroom last year.

But stunned brides-to-be slammed the finished work as “totally unrecognisable” from the white walls, neutral fabrics and classic lighting in the computer-generated images they had been shown beforehand.

Local couple Tasha Burton, 29, and partner Liam Scott, 32, booked their wedding in October last year after falling in love with the “bright and airy” style shown in computer-generated pictures.

Tasha, who is set to tie the knot on August 27, told Ayrshire Live’s sister paper the Daily Record: “They have promised us one thing and delivered something totally unrecognisable. It’s tasteless.

“We wouldn’t have booked our wedding if we knew it would look the way it does now.”

New images of the renovations show a hunting lodge-style room with patterned wallpaper, brown wood and luminous pink lighting.

Tasha added: “If they don’t put this right, I’ll be looking for a partial refund.”

Brig o’ Doon House has received more than 300 comments from fuming brides after posting pictures of the updated work on its social media page. Damning feedback described the ballroom’s new look as “rotten”, “heinous” and “dreadful”.

One bride said: “Can’t believe my fiancé and I are having to come to terms with the fact that we will probably need to get married in a room that we utterly dislike.”

Another person, who was previously married at the hotel, said: “What a waste of a beautiful venue, absolutely tasteless and tacky.”

A spokesman for the hotel said: “Although work within the Grand Ballroom at Brig o’ Doon House Hotel is not yet complete, we consider public feedback to be important at this stage and we appreciate the vested interest the community has in the property’s success.

“At present, the renovations are around halfway complete and the team will now be working further on feature lighting and various other finishing touches within the space.”
