Majority of Brits have considered a digital detox and want to spend time away from digital devices

A majority of Brits have considered a digital detox - while four in every five Gen Zers are eager to spend some time away from all their digital devices.

HMD Global – home of Nokia phones – has partnered with Unplugged, the UK’s first and original off-grid escape, to launch its new Lush Green Nokia 2660 Flip phone, now available in all cabins.

Guests can lock away their smartphone for a three-day period in exchange for the Nokia 2660 Flip, joining four in ten Brits (43%) who already take time to digital detox. By doing this, the remote destination – with locations approximately one to two hours from key cities including London and Manchester – removes the temptation to endlessly scroll on social media or check emails out of working hours.

Some 63% of Brits overall, and even more of Gen Z (80%), have thought about taking a digital detox, with Lars Silberbauer, from HMD Global, said: “We’ve noticed a trend, particularly with Gen Z, who are combatting digital fatigue by investing in a Flip phone.

"Because it has more limited features than a standard smartphone, a basic device is an effective way of staying just connected enough through calls and texts – freeing up more time to live in the moment.”

Overuse of social media is igniting Gen Z’s interest in simpler devices to limit internet access. #BringBackFlipPhones has racked up over 50 million views on TikTok, as creators post about feature phones being ideal for reducing screen time while also harkening back to 90s fashion.

Hector Hughes, founder of Unplugged, said: “We all spend time looking at screens to work, keep in touch with family and friends and for entertainment, so it’s easy to feel burnt out. Taking time to digital detox can improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety and increase productivity. If you feel like you're spending too much time on your phone, you might want to consider an escape like Unplugged.”

The Lush Green Nokia 2660 Flip is available to buy in the UK today for £64.99 from Nokia.com/phones. With hints of gold and a simple-to-use keypad, it takes you back to basics with the comfort of modern essentials like SMS messaging, FM radio and the game Snake.
