Trump's victory in the last election came amidst widespread disapproval of President Joe Biden's performance and negative sentiments regarding the country's current state and economy. The poll indicates that nearly 7 in 10 Americans believe that Trump has the potential to bring about significant change in the country, with 48% expressing optimism that this change will be for the better.
Despite Trump's previous exit from the White House with low approval ratings, the public sentiment towards him seems to have improved, suggesting a 'honeymoon period' as he prepares to take office again. However, the poll also highlights that Trump's positive reception falls short of that received by other recent incoming presidents, even when compared to his own previous transition ratings.
The overall mood in the country appears to have brightened following Trump's win, possibly due to the typical shift in partisan sentiments that often accompanies a change in presidential leadership. While a majority of Americans still believe that the country is facing challenges (61%), the percentage of those who feel things are going 'very badly' has decreased to 15%, the lowest since May 2018. On the other hand, the proportion of individuals who believe that things are going well has risen to 38%, the highest since December 2021.
