Improvements to Bulwell bus station are being made as part of a major revamp which has been welcomed by passengers. Many people feel the refurbishment is 'much-needed'.
The station will have new shelters installed from January 16. There will also be improved access for wheelchair users and safer patient waiting facilities.
It will also be made more environmentally-friendly and sustainable through solar powered bus shelter lighting, and new greenery will be introduced in planters along the footpaths to increase biodiversity. Nottingham and Derby City councils have secured £161million from the Department of Transport to invest in local transport infrastructure.

The station will be closed while the work takes place. It will reopen on April 20.
Temporary bus stops will be available on the Main Street and Bulwell High Road. People in Bulwell welcomed the improvements.
Charlotte Danneson, 36, said: "It is needed, it's much-needed. There aren't enough seats. In the rain, you mostly get wet and it needs to be modernised."
Charlotte, a receptionist from Bulwell, added: "Much of Bulwell needs a revamp but this is a start. If you're not from Bulwell this bus station could be the first thing you see and it's a small thing but it could leave a massive impression and determine whether you come back or not."
At the end of April, a formal opening ceremony for the bus station will be held. Graham Rawlinson, 61, is from Strelley. He uses Bulwell bus station now and again.
Graham said: "I think it's (the bus station) quite outdated, a lot of people have to stand in the rain. I think it's a good idea for the bus station to be done up."
Charlie Wilson, 56, has always lived in Bulwell. He said: “Even though the Levelling Up Funding decision has been delayed, if that all goes through on top of the bus station being done up, that would be a massive positive for Bulwell."
The bricklayer added: "It's a good long-term investment. Some people seem to be unhappy because they think it's a waste of money but I don't think they're looking at the bigger picture."
