Everton's transfer interest in Celtic defender Alistair Johnston has cooled, according to a report.
It's claimed the Premier League club failed to reach an agreement on a transfer fee for the Canadian internationalist.
Martin O'Neill had confirmed there was interest from Everton after David Moyes called him personally ahead of an offer.
But The Daily Record now state Everton are looking at alternative options after they didn't meet the asking price for Johnston.
It's thought Celtic wanted more than £15m for Johnston this summer and were keen to keep him until after the Champions League play-off against LASK.
Everton are thought to be aware that Johnston would be keen on a switch to the Premier League.
But they are reportedly looking at Strasbourg defender Guela Doue as an option after struggling to strike a deal with Celtic.
On discussions with Johnston about a possible Everton switch, O'Neill said: "I've spoken to him on the back of the interest.
"Again, it was one of those where Alistair is perfectly happy here at the football club.
"But like anything else, your head can get turned very quickly, particularly if it's a really good club.
"He wouldn't leave here for a second-class Premier League club, if there is such a thing, but if a big, big club comes in, it's something you would have to look at.
"And I think it's only natural as well. If I were a player, I'd be exactly the same."
