A MAJOR Glasgow road has been closed indefinitely after subsidence was discovered in the carriageway.
Drivers are being warned to expect delays after part of Trongate was shut to allow urgent investigation works to take place.
The westbound closure affects Trongate between Albion Street and the Glassford Street/Stockwell Street junction.
According to Glasgow City Council, the restrictions have been put in place due to subsidence concerns and will remain in force until further notice.
Motorists travelling through the city centre are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Alternative routes are in place via Albion Street, Ingram Street and Glassford Street.
A Glasgow City Council traffic bulletin states: "Due to subsidence and urgent carriageway investigation works, Trongate is closed westbound between Albion Street and Glassford Street/Stockwell Street.
"The closure will remain in place from now until further notice.
"Drivers are advised to expect potential delays and allow extra time for their journeys."
The council has not yet indicated when the road is expected to reopen.
