Major scheduling changes on cards for BBC Strictly Come Dancing because of World Cup

Saturday night wouldn't be right without Strictly Come Dancing, would it? Well, in a major scheduling shake up, the show is moving. The BBC hit programme will be cha-cha-ing its way to another slot as bosses at the channel make way for the World Cup.

The show, which is now celebrating it 20th series, waved goodbye to EastEnders actor James Bye and dance partner Amy Dowden during this week's Halloween special. But there will also be a shake up soon when it comes to viewing slots.

While fans will be able to watch at the regular times for a few more weeks, the quarter and semi-finals of the dance show look set to move as a World Cup clash has been identified. Strictly Live shows will be hot shoe shuffled to Friday and Sunday instead of the usual Saturday and Sunday.

In recent weeks, other fan favourite programmes have been shuffled to make way for 'specials'. Gogglebox, which usually airs at 9pm on a Friday night on Channel 4, was temporarily moved to Saturday at 9pm to make way for a special edition of Friday Night Live.

Strictly programmes which look to be affected by the World Cup are the quarter and semi-finals, which had been expected to air on Saturday, December 3, and Saturday, December 10. They will now air, it seems, on Friday, December 2, and Sunday, December 11.

A Strictly spokesperson told NottinghamshireLive: "Strictly Come Dancing will continue to bring glitter, glamour and glorious dancing to homes across the nation throughout the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The quarter-final of Strictly Come Dancing will now air live on Friday, December 2, and the semi-final will now air live on Sunday, December 11, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer."

Timings and alterations will be confirmed nearer the time, but this would suggest that the final of the dancing programme will air on Saturday, December 17.
